Used Car Engines

Once upon a time a car needing a replacement engine would spell the end and you would need to fork out on a new model but now the availability of replacement engines means you can give your motor a new lease of life.

The engine is as you would expect one of the most crucial parts of a car, turning fuel into motion through a process know as internal combustion.

The availability of replacement engines has increased massive amounts in recent years and many now view an engine as a customisable feature of a vehicle.

The video below shows a 3D representation of how a car engine works and is put together.

1 Call Will Do It All

1 Call Does It All   is a new service for trade and consumers alike, it allows users to find the part they require for the best price in one phone call – saving both time and money.

The service works by searching four of the biggest stockists of spare parts and compares the prices whilst users wait on the phone.

1 Call Does It All searches 1st Choice Spares, 247 Spares, Breakeryard and Car Spare Finder all of which are independent from the service, this helps guarantee users the best possible price.

The four services have been personally chosen by 1 Call Will Do It All based on their reputation and standing within the industry.

The one of a kind service prides itself on helping customers find parts easily and for the cheapest possible price, saying:

“This is an ideal service for those in the trade who are short on time or just do not have access to a computer.”

Although the service is available to everyone the creators of the service believe that it will be of huge benefit to garages and other part finders, adding:

“In business time really is money, so saving time saves money.”

With the automotive industry going through  difficult times and many not being able to buy new cars this service allows people to find the parts needed to keep their current vehicle on the road without breaking the bank.

Any enquiry that is made to the service is dealt with by highly trained staff before being sent onto the four chosen parts dealers.

Steering for Success: Mercedes GP PERTRONAS

A Mercedes GP PETRONAS formula one Steering wheel can cost as much as £25,000, which is a lot of money considering you can get a new A class on the road for around £12,000.

The F1 steering wheel enables the driver to fine tune many elements of the car from the cockpit. According to Wikipedia, The F1 steering wheel has the facility to change gears, apply a rev limiter, adjust the fuel air mix, change break pressure, and call the radio.  It can display data such as rpm, lap times, speed and gear selection on its LCD screen. It is made out of carbon fibre and weighs in at just 1.3kgs.

There is one thing the Wikipedia article doesn’t say the wheel can do and that’s change the direction of the car!   The Mercedes PETRONAS team have listed this ability on their website though.

If you’re after something a little simpler, maybe something that can change the volume or CD track on the radio.  Then you can look for car parts elsewhere and they are less expensive than £25,000. Prices for new steering wheels from £199 for a basic model, but some used part can be much more cost effective.

Don’t forget, by using used parts you’re also doing your bit for the environment.

Renault Scenic: Dashboard problems.

Renault Scenic owners unhappy at fault

Owners of the Renault Scenic will no doubt praise the car for its van like room, ample storage space and great handling.  However some customers have noted that their dashboards have been flickering and failing.   This fault leaves the driver incapable of knowing their speed and other important information.  It is also illegal for them to drive without a work dashboard.

What most customers find most annoying is that even though this a common fault and possibly a design flaw:  They are expected to pay to rectify it.   Some customers have been quoted up to £600 fit a replacement.

Christopher Pullman when commenting on experiencing  the fault said ”My Scenic 2 dashboard has been playing up for the last 6 month.  It intermittently fails.  I was quoted £300 pounds from an independent dealer to rectify the problem and £600 from my established Renault dealer”

BBC WATCHDOG

In late 2009, BBC watchdog reported on the problem.  They state on their website “we rang up ten Renault dealerships; all of them had encountered the problem”.  As a result of the pressure applied by the programme, Renault has offered to fix any future dashboards for only £100.  Ann Robinson comment on the offer “This is a result,” but continued and asked”why have Renault offered to pay for some displays but not others?”

Front And Rear Crash Repairs

Thousands of cars are involved in scrapes, bumps and crashes everyday. Most of these cars will take damage to the front or the rear of the vehicle and will need new body panels or engine components etc. Replacement parts are becoming harder and harder to get hold of thanks to people having their cars crushed instead of recycling parts so parts locator sevices like carpartbuyer can help you get hold of parts like bumpers, boot lids, headlights, tail lights, radiators, fans etc.

Car Airfilters

Car airfilters come in all shapes and sizes and cost anything from £20 to £200 for a full induction kit. The airfilter is an important part of a vehicles air intake system becuase it cleans the air before sending it through the rest of the car. By doing this it means you dont have to worry about things like dust, mould and pollen etc. geting into your engine. Performance enhancing air filters are popular amongst car enthusiasts and boy racers. This clip shows you the difference in sound when adding a simple air filter to your car.

Twin Clutch Transmission

Twin clutch transmissions are becoming more and more popular. They are the fastest way of changing gears and are much more powerful than a standard automatic or manual gearbox. Watch this review on the twin clutch transmission in the 2009 Lancer RalliArt with varying applications of the throttle.

ECU – Engine management

A cars ECU is like the brain. It controlls how much of everything it needs to keep it running based on a number of parameters, for example fuel input and ignition timing. It recieves signals from sensors and valves from within different sections of the engine to help it do this. The more the accelerator is pressed down, the more fuel the ECU has to inject to keep the air/fuel ratio the same.

Business of Selling Used Car Parts

It might not have crossed you mind but used car parts do not come boxed and barcoded, they need to be stripped from existing cars to a safe standard standard as well as comlying  to strick rules on  not only how to dispose of the vehicle but the fluids and fuel withn. Getting the right cars in to match the needs of buyers can also be complicated. There is an abundance of cars taken off the roads each year, but finding the vehicles where there is a demand for the used car parts on the car is not easy, so brekers yards end up scapping mosts of vehicles that do come into the yard becuase they are the wrong make and model.

Here is how they do it in the USA.
